Emanuel Pleitez, candidate running for Mayor of Los Angeles, is a Citizen Leader and Latino Chairman for No Labels, a nonpartisan organization dedicated to bridging the partisan divide to get politics working. No Labels, which started in December 2010 following the contentious and hyper-partisan Midterm Elections, is dedicated to the simple idea that government should spend less time fighting and more time fixing. As Emanuel states in the video endorsement below, “We need to stop the bickering from the Right and Left, but do what we can to come up with solutions to move our country forward.”
Pleitez initially was attracted to No Labels for its theme of problem solving after seeing the political parties shift to the extremes in 2010. Since getting involved, Pleitez has seen the organization find a channel for progress and build bipartisan relationships through a 12-member Problem Solvers Caucus in Congress. They also have 12 proposed steps to Make Congress Work, including ideas like mandatory mixed partisan seating assignments in Congress, withholding pay for members of Congress until after they reach budgetary agreement, extending the workweek for Congress members from three to five days a week, and ending gridlock through filibuster and the nomination confirmation process reform.
